The Halfway Point and All It Holds

July 29, 2021August 2, 2021Leave a Comment on The Halfway Point and All It Holds

A few years ago I was in therapy for anxiety, and I'm in therapy again, and an area we worked on was getting myself to take into full consideration the present. To be more mindful in my day-to-day activities so that I would not be as crippled with anxiety over possibilities in the future. It…

Insta Blurbs

December 4, 20202 Comments on Insta Blurbs

More times than not, I write on my Instagram. It's where I share most of my photos and will often write quick blurbs in the description that are much longer than what most people write in theirs, and often I lend far too much meaning to an area most people scroll past. I've wanted to…

The Necessity of Dawn

August 10, 2020Leave a Comment on The Necessity of Dawn

I have always been a morning bird. I think it's because I was born in the morning, my first breaths of my life in this world were with morning air and I completed my first day as the day completed itself. As a teen, when I had more time to do as I pleased, I…

August, Again

In the mid-Atlantic, I could never truly differentiate between June, July and August other than the comings and goings of birthdays. The passage of time was unnoticed by the weather, hot and muggy as it was with the air pressing down on your skin whether it be in sun or shade, day or night. The…

Repeat After Me

"It's like..." I began to say, my eyes trailing over the outline of the closed door, my hands raised as if they would aid me in explaining what couldn't quite be explained. I paused, considering my words and how hard it was to say how I felt. Finally, I tried, I was a writer, wasn't…

Returning to Happiness

August 18, 2017Leave a Comment on Returning to Happiness

It's easy to be pulled away by life. The long list of tasks, the never-ending chores; they are more powerful than they seem and can easily whisk you away from more pleasurable things. You're trucking along, focusing on the changing of seasons, but then you're suddenly thrown into a whirlwind of unplanned activity and calendar…

Greatest Morning

September 3, 2016September 3, 2016Leave a Comment on Greatest Morning

I'm sitting on our deck. It was hastily made, as are most of the row homes in Northern Virginia, thrown up with quick effort because time is money. The deck is narrow, untreated, and the wood is buckling underneath. It creaks as you walk across it and can't fit any decent deck furniture. But we…
